What is a Task?

Note: If you choose not to respond to the questions, this site may not display correctly. We strongly recommend that you return to the PREVIOUS PAGE and answer the question(s) in order to gain the most from this exercise.

According to J. Platt, J. Richards, and H. Weber, a task is an "activity or action which is carried out as the result of processing or understanding language." They argue that tasks provide a purpose to learners, encourage interaction and promote target language as a means to an end. Tasks are purposeful, goal-oriented, engage learners and can be problem-solving or consensus building. Hence, ALL of the options on the previous page hold true.
