4 Guidelines for Developing Technology-based Tasks

By keeping in mind a few simple guidelines, we can prepare effective technology-based tasks. There are four general guidelines that you should always take into consideration. First, identify task goals. What purpose will this activity serve? Why should the students invest their time in this activity?

In the article "Authentic tasks and materials for testing in the foreign language classroom" published in the book "The Coming of Age of the Profession", R.M. Terry explains:

"When we choose authentic materials, there should be a purpose- not simply to decorate the page or to fill (or kill) time but to introduce learners to a specific cultural concepts, to illustrate something that has just been taught (or that is going to be taught), to serve as a stimulus for an activity.

Guideline #1

Using your own words, summarize the first guideline of effective task design in the field below.
